Some people may be sensitive to air pollution at the “Moderate” level, like people with heart or lung disease, or a current respiratory infection. They should limit outdoor activity.
When air quality is in this range “Unhealthy for Sensitive Populations” there is an increasing likelihood of adverse health effects for those with pre-existing heart and lung diseases. People with pre-existing heart and lung diseases, the elderly, and children should limit prolonged outdoor exertion
When the air quality is in the “Unhealthy” range there may be increased aggravation of pre-existing heart and lung diseases and premature mortality among sensitive populations. Increasing adverse respiratory effects may also be seen in the general population. People with pre-existing health conditions, the elderly, and children should limit exertion and stay indoors, if possible. Everyone else should limit time spent outdoors and prolonged exertion.
